Weezie's Opens in Belgravia: Thin-Crust Pizza at Eccleston Yards
Belgravia has a new neighbourhood favourite in the making. Weezie's, a pizza restaurant and wine bar from the team behind amie wine studio, opens today, Tuesday 7 April, at 14 to 15 Eccleston Yards. It takes over the former Biscuiteers site next door to amie, and the two are designed to work together: start with a glass at one, then move next door for pizza.
The people behind it
Weezie's is the work of Will and Abbie Sandbach, who already run amie in the same courtyard, and the name honours Abbie's grandmother. In the kitchen is Sumant Sinai, whose CV includes Circus Pizza at Panzer's in St John's Wood and Share a Slice in Brixton, two names well known to London pizza obsessives. Hot Dinners first reported the project in January.
The pizza
The style is thin crust, drawing on London and New Haven traditions rather than the puffy Neapolitan pies that have dominated the city for a decade. The dough uses regeneratively farmed flour and British ingredients, and the menu adds small plates and house-made sauces for dipping, including a southern-style buttermilk ranch. Takeaway pizzas are available too, which will please local residents as much as office workers around Victoria. Furniture is mostly vintage or reclaimed, according to early reports, which should give the room a lived-in feel from day one.
The drinks
Wine is half the point. Expect amie wines by the glass, including the team's own-label wines such as an original rosé and a crémant, plus Guinness, Harbour Brewery beers from Cornwall and a concise cocktail list. Restaurant Online reports an old fashioned made with Kentucky straight bourbon among the cocktails.
How to get a table
Weezie's is mainly walk-in. Reservations are only taken for larger groups, so smaller parties should simply turn up, ideally early in the evening during opening week. Weekends are likely to be the busiest time, as Eccleston Yards fills with shoppers and residents. The space can also be hired for events, and a small terrace is planned for warmer weather, which should make it a strong spring and summer spot in the courtyard.
What to order first
On a first visit, keep it simple: a classic thin-crust pie, a couple of small plates with that buttermilk ranch, and a glass of the house rosé. There is no need to over-order on night one; it is easy to return and work through the rest of the menu over the spring.
Why it matters
Belgravia has plenty of grand dining rooms and handsome pubs, but very little in the way of relaxed, good-value dinners you can drop into on a weeknight. A pizza and wine bar from operators who already have a following on the same courtyard fills that gap neatly, and Eccleston Yards continues to build its reputation as one of the more interesting small food destinations in SW1.
Getting there
Eccleston Yards is on Eccleston Place, about five minutes on foot from Victoria station and an easy walk from Sloane Square. For more new openings and neighbourhood favourites, see our restaurant guide.
