Peggy Porschen is a cake shop and café on Ebury Street in Belgravia, open since 2003 and best known for its pink frontage, seasonal floral installations and a counter of cupcakes and layer cakes. The Parlour, as the café is called, serves brunch, barista coffee, artisan teas, smoothies and champagne through the day, with cakes from the patisserie counter to eat in or take away.
The main event is the seasonal afternoon tea. This autumn it is the Enchanted Orchard: three tiers of sandwiches, scones and patisseries such as pumpkin spice and blackberry choux, with bottomless tea, priced from £56 per adult. There are vegetarian, vegan and gluten-friendly versions and a smaller tea for children aged 12 and under. A Morning Tea of miniature brunch dishes runs until noon, and the cake range includes a vegan, dairy-friendly and gluten-friendly selection.
Inside is a compact café arranged around the cake counter, with a terrace outside where blankets appear in cold weather. It suits birthday treats, friends catching up and anyone who wants the photograph. Afternoon and Morning Tea are bookable; other tables are walk-in, and there can be a queue at weekends. Hours are 8.30am to 5.30pm Monday to Thursday and to 6pm Friday to Sunday, with last hot food orders at 3.30pm. Card payments only.
