Royal Court Theatre
Sloane Square's writers' theatre, staging new plays across two spaces, with £15 Mondays for members and The Bar Below serving Tex-Mex from D Grande.
About Royal Court Theatre
The Royal Court Theatre on Sloane Square calls itself the writers' theatre, and new plays are its whole purpose. It champions playwrights at every stage of their careers through year round programmes and commissioning schemes, and it stages their work across two theatre spaces in the building. Its current season includes productions from writers including Ryan Calais Cameron, Joy Nesbitt and Rhys Warrington.
Come for a play you will not have seen before: the programme is almost entirely new writing, much of it staged here first. Members get early access to the theatre's £15 Monday tickets and priority booking, which is worth knowing if you plan to go often. Beneath the auditorium, The Bar Below is the relaunched bar and kitchen, serving Tex-Mex food from D Grande, including queso, tacos and burritos, with cocktails, wine and craft drinks; profits go back to the theatre and its writers. The bar is open from noon until late from Monday to Saturday, with food until 9pm, and there is a pre-theatre set menu.
The Royal Court suits regular theatregoers, students of drama and anyone who likes to see what British theatre is about to talk about. Behind the scenes tours are available, and the building can be hired for events. Book through the box office on 020 7565 5000 or online.
