The Wellesley Knightsbridge is a Luxury Collection hotel, part of Marriott, at 11 Knightsbridge, overlooking Hyde Park near Hyde Park Corner. The building began life as Hyde Park Corner tube station, designed by Leslie Green, and the ox-blood tiled facade on Knightsbridge is original. Inside, Fox Linton Associates restored it in a modern Art Deco style that nods to the building's jazz era past.
Food and drink lean Italian and classic. The Oval Restaurant serves refined Italian cooking from seasonal ingredients in an intimate room, and the Crystal Bar recreates the glamour of the 1920s, its walls lined with the hotel's whisky, cognac and Armagnac collections. There is live music, and the heated Cigar Terrace, with leather seating and a bespoke humidor, works in all weathers. Butler service is included for every guest and covers unpacking, pressing, shoe shining and room service.
The Wellesley Penthouse Suite takes the sixth and seventh floors, with up to four bedrooms, a private staircase and a terrace with rooftop views over Belgravia and Knightsbridge. The hotel suits couples, small celebrations and travellers who prefer an intimate hotel with old fashioned service to a large one. Bookings are made through the Marriott website; the former thewellesley.co.uk address did not respond when checked.
