Autumn at The Berkeley: park suites, Surrenne and Cedric Grolet
Autumn is the season when a room facing Hyde Park earns its rate. The trees along the south side of the park turn quickly once October arrives, and few hotels sit closer to them than The Berkeley on Wilton Place. The hotel is pitching itself firmly at the season, and with the summer crowds gone, now is a good moment to look at what it offers.
The park suites
The centrepiece is the Berkeley Park Suite Collection: nine park-facing suites plus the Hyde Park Penthouse, each the work of a different designer, with the park directly outside the windows. The penthouse has an outdoor terrace set with a round dining table, looking over the red-brick rooftops of Knightsbridge towards the trees.
For a weekend that feels like a proper change of pace, these are the rooms to ask about, particularly for a birthday or anniversary when the view does much of the work. Not every booking needs a suite, of course, and the hotel's terraces are part of the appeal whichever room you choose, framing the changing colours across the park.
Surrenne Belgravia
One of the most useful details for an autumn stay is that every booking includes access to Surrenne Belgravia, the wellness and longevity club spread over four floors with treatment rooms, a gym and wellness spaces. Its indoor pool, lined in turquoise tiles with curtained cabanas, is the kind of place you want on a wet afternoon. The hotel has two pools in total. A morning swim, a walk in the park and a long lunch is about as good a recovery plan as London offers in October.
Eating and drinking
- Cedric Grolet's counter: the celebrated pâtissier is in residence, and his pastries are finished in front of guests.
- La Môme London: the hotel's restaurant, inspired by the timeless glamour of the French Riviera.
- The Berkeley Café: for the hotel's own take on afternoon tea.
- The Berkeley Bar and Terrace: for a vintage pour at the end of the day.
- Breakfast: served in the suite, at The Berkeley Café or at Jean-Georges' abc kitchens.
The full picture, including current offers, is on The Berkeley's page on the Maybourne site. Our Berkeley guide has more on the bars and the building.
Make the most of the park
Hyde Park's pedestrian gates open at 5am and close at midnight, so an early walk before breakfast is easy from Wilton Place. The Royal Parks publishes a self-guided autumn walk on the park map, and the Serpentine's lakeside paths and cafés are a natural loop. Our Hyde Park guide covers the rest.
Practical notes
The Berkeley is at Wilton Place, SW1X 7RL, between Knightsbridge and Hyde Park Corner stations. The hotel holds a Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star rating for 2026. Autumn weekends around half-term and the run-up to Winter Wonderland book up early in this part of town, so if a park-facing suite is the point of the trip, enquire well ahead and ask specifically for the view.
