The Macallan Opens Its First UK Boutique at Harrods

Knightsbridge has a new destination for serious whisky drinkers. The Macallan has opened its first UK boutique inside Harrods, taking over the space that was formerly the Baccarat Bar, right beside the store's Fine Wines & Spirits Department. It is the brand's first boutique of its kind in its home market, and a significant addition to a store that already treats wine and spirits as theatre. Collectors who have previously had to travel to the distillery for the deepest range now have a far shorter journey.

What the boutique offers

The range is the headline. The boutique carries one of the most extensive selections of The Macallan's single malts available outside the distillery's own estate in Speyside, from core expressions to rare releases and limited editions. But it is designed to be more than a shop. As The Whiskey Wash reported at the opening, the space includes:

  • A sampling bar, so you can taste before committing to a bottle.
  • A personalisation and gifting station, where bottles can be engraved with a name, date or inscription.
  • A flexible room that can be converted into a fine dining space for private experiences.

Design worth seeing

The boutique was designed by the architect Jamie Fobert, whose previous work includes the National Portrait Gallery's recent extension, around The Macallan's Nurtured by Nature retail concept. The materials reference the distillery and its landscape: copper walls, oak flooring, albariza stone and waved walls that evoke the River Spey. Look out, too, for artwork by the designer David Carson and the pop artist Sir Peter Blake, which gives the room the feel of a small gallery as much as a shop. Fobert's other projects include the Fondaco dei Tedeschi in Venice.

The 100-bottle exclusive

To mark the opening, Harrods has an exclusive edition of The Macallan Rare Cask 2026, limited to just 100 bottles and available only at the boutique. Its gift sleeve features artwork by the Spanish painter and illustrator Javi Aznárez, a long-time Macallan collaborator, and his agency describes the design as a lively, elegant crowd scene full of small details. The bottles were released on opening day on a first come, first served basis, so availability now is worth checking with the boutique before you make a special trip.

Why it matters for gifting

Coming just after Father's Day, the timing is a reminder that the engraving station is a genuinely useful service: a personalised bottle is the kind of present that is hard to arrange at short notice elsewhere. Birthdays, retirements and corporate thank yous all fit the brief, and the sampling bar means you can choose by taste rather than by label alone.

Finding it

The boutique sits next to Fine Wines & Spirits inside Harrods on Brompton Road, a minute from Knightsbridge station. Combine it with the Food Halls nearby, and see our shopping guide for more Knightsbridge gifting ideas.
